Hello all! Deanna here today! How is your summer going? Have you taken a vacation yet? Did you do a big vacation, or did you do some smaller day trips? Did the increasing cost of gas dictate your decisions on where to go this summer? (or how far to go?) Although summer is far from over, everybody in my neighborhood is busily getting ready for school to start! But I’m still enjoying summer. It seems that these seasons go so fast!! And is it REALLY time to be thinking about school already?

We didn’t make it to the beach yet this summer! The photos on the layout I’m sharing were taken a couple of years ago in San Diego. San Diego is a great place to spend your summer. It’s right on the beach, and usually enjoys a balmy breeze that keeps it nice and cool unless you go inland. These photos were taken on Coronado Island right in front of the Coronado Hotel. My granddaughters had such fun climbing on the rocks and playing in the water!! What wonderful memories.

Saving memories is why I scrapbook. Life just escapes so fast. Beautiful memories can be lost forever if nobody takes the time to snap some photos and write down the happenings of the day. Why not take some photos today, and document a typical summer day in your life. Do it now before you forget, or before the summer ends! What do you want to remember about this summer? What fantastic things happened in your family this summer? What little things happened? It is usually the “little” things that get forgotten. Normal little things–like our family trip to the beach that fun summer day!

I made this layout to jog my memory of a fun time with the grandchildren. I used Dianne Rigdon’s new kit called Summer Livin’ and a template from Connie Prince! You can pick up the kit at Two Peas! Don’t forget to scrap those great memories!!

I have a granddaughter that was born on the 4th of July fourteen years ago!! I can’t believe how fast that time has flown by. She’s a real sweetie, and I made this layout for her!

Why I Scrap

My subject today is WHY I SCRAP! Have you thought about that? Do you scrap for the creative outlet? Or do you have other things that influence your pages? I absolutely LOVE scrapping. I started paper scrapping about 16 years ago. At first, it was just a hobby. It was a time spent with my three daughters creating pages for the future. Over the years, though, it has become more of a way of life for me! I switched to digi about 2 years ago, and my passion for scrapping has grown even more.

I have 14 grandchildren! Most of them don’t live very close to us, so being a daily fixture in their lives has been difficult! Even though we don’t live close-by, though, I want the grandchildren to know how much they mean to me, and that they are thought about every day! I scrap things they do, and funny stories their parents share with me. The kinds of layouts I love the most are the ones that take photos of their activities, and show that Grandpa or Grandma also did similar things when we were small. I like to link generations together that way. I see that the computer age has changed a lot in our world, but I want them to know that when my husband and I were growing up, we were a lot like they are–even if we didn’t have all the electronic gadgets that are available today.

This layout I did recently with Dianne’s and Polka Dot Pixel’s collaboration Discovery Kit and a template from Chrissy W is an example of one of my favorite kind of layouts! It hooked together two generations–my husband and my son–to a favorite teen activity, and an eventual career path. I think I’m going to be able to add another generation to this layout soon. My son’s son Adam is also interested in becoming an engineer. We’ll have a few years to wait, though, as he’s still in high school!

Another reason I scrap is to show how God has worked in my life through my unique life experiences. I want these grandchildren to know that God and Faith and reliance in Him is so important to me and to my husband! Since they don’t see us every day-or every week, or even every month, all they will have someday is what we can instill in them now. One day maybe they will be thumbing through the scrapbooks and find a layout that I did about my father, and how I relied on Him to cope with feelings when my father died. The only way they will know anything about my father is through my scrapbooks. My father died when I was 14, so it was before any of my own children were even thought of!

Still another reason is, before I started scrapping, I did a lot of genealogy work. Now I have photos of a lot of these people I researched, so I’d LIKE to get some of that down and into some scrapbooks. I use some of those photos in hooking the generations together. I try to include any history I’ve unearthed in those layouts.

All in all, for me, the creative feature of scrapbooking isn’t as important to me as just getting all these things documented! I want my grandchildren to know how much we loved them every day. I want them to know how much we’ve relied on God through the years, I want them to know we are (and were) a lot like them, and I want to give them their ancestral history! That is a lot!

So, keep scrapping, keep sharing those fun times in your life, and when you look back on them, I pray your love of family and God will shine through your craft! May God Bless you!
