I had to blog this….mostly so I can remember it and come back to it later. I have had it sitting in it’s own tab on my desktop forever. The thing is, this is a great idea, but more than that, I can’t get it out of my head that we could really take this to another level. A digiscrappin’ level, but I just haven’t had the time to explore. I am thinking that it probably would be best not to do the wallpaper application method, but using the glue dots/cardstock method, you could put darn near anything right on the wall. Quote, dimentional or shaped layouts…..print on shiny or matte gloss paper or hey….what about inkjet transparencies? On your WALL?! Think acrylic album for your wall, folks! Okay. That’s all I have to say. My job is to inspire. If you do this, you better send me a picture, or I’ll be dropping by your house later…..Apartment Therapy – how to make your own wallpaper decals. Boom.

Some Hearts

So many songs come to mind….some hearts get lucky….if my heart had wings…..and I have to admit that I have had a soft spot for hearts and wings, individually and together, for a very long time. Hearts are sort of like my personal icon. I don’t collect them really, but still am just inspired by the silly shape for some reason! I do have a set of 5 glass heart christmas ornaments that I refuse to take down, so there are some signs of this secret passion. Hearts to me mean more than romantic love – they speak to me of hope and promise and fullness and belonging and even creativity, somehow. Physically, of course, the real heart we need to live. But our lives have less meaning without a spiritual heart that loves and hopes and dreams and satisfies. A heart means more than receiving, but giving freely without compensation.

I love hearts. Here are some for you with a few extra goodies. I love how puffy and full they are – almost fit to burst with love for your scrapbook pages! And some funky netted wings and bright colors because I know your love is BIG and BOLD. I added some glitter, because, well, glitter goes with everything dontchaknow.

Passion indicators

I am doing a fun bible study with some ladies at my church and one of the things we are talking about are spiritual gifts, fruit of the spirit and how they figure in to service and finding your passion within the church (and life) to serve and participate and to do so more richly. As I study I am finding this applies to everything and it’s really helping me focus in on some talents and feel less guilty about others because I am learning that I was fearfully and wonderfully made and there is a place even for me! So I don’t have to feel guilty that I am not quite as Martha Stewart as I thought I needed to be etc. ;)

I thought it would be fun to just share one of the questions she gave as homework and see if it inspires you to find out more about your passions and where you fit in:

Imagine that you and I are meeting for the first time. In the course of our conversation, we talk about a variety of topics. Then we turn to a new subject. As you are talking to me about it, you start speaking faster. You lean forward. You become increasingly animated. You are talking about a subject that could keep you up late at night and cause you to jump out of bed in the morning. What are we talking about?

I have some new friends! Fluffy, Spot, P. Nutty, Tweets, and Glub. I never had so much fun making new friends before. And my kids helped, which explains some of the names and really, I should rename P. Nutty to B. Nutty because P. Nutty makes me think of an elephant but well here we are and I stayed true to our combined vision for our new set of friends. So there. Pftt! My new friends like to play all day and smile and sing and I just know you will like them too!

Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention they were strongly inspired by this month’s Scrap Artist featured artist, Jenifer Syfu, whose cute and fuzzy stuffies have inspired us to create a unique and wonderfully eclectic wooly Artist-to-Aritst collaborative just for you! Our heart is with Haiti….

On January 12th, the earthquake that rocked the island nation of Haiti resonated throughout the world through news organizations and the internet. Many people wondered what they can do to help, many people have contributed to charities and raised funds through whatever means they had at their disposal. Songbird Avenue, as a site devoted to charitable giving, has asked past guest designers to come together with us to create a beautiful piece of art to benefit Doctors Without Borders, just one of so many organizations committed to helping the people of Haiti.

On February 1st, Port au Prince will go on sale. Over 56 designers came together to create this colorful digital scrapbooking kit, including over 100 papers, over 200 embellishments, 6 templates and 8 alpha sets. For only $8, you can purchase the kit to use to scrap your cherished memories and send help to a country and organization that needs it.

A Little About Songbird Avenue

Songbird Avenue is a result of the combined efforts of Jan Crowley and Meredith Fenwick. Both designers with long-standing reputations in the digital community, these two women decided that they wanted to focus their efforts on a digital store devoted to charity. They started planning and dreaming and in May of 2007, Songbird Avenue was born. With an amazing debut and a incredibly warm reception by the community, they have been inspired to continue on the path of giving and Songbird Avenue is now a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. All proceeds from the sale of digital goods on the site every month, minus the PayPal fees, are donated directly to the qualified charity of the guest designer’s choice. Songbird Avenue has given to many charities including Autism Speaks, the American Diabetes Association, the Fisher Center for Alzheimer Research, Toys for Tots and Make a Wish Foundation to name a few. Over $40,000 has been raised and donated to these causes by Songbird Avenue.

As the site has grown, the team has also. Amy Wolff, Janet Phillips and Liz Tamanaha have all joined the support and design staff of Songbird Avenue. As a way to help promote the site, Songbird Avenue has an amazing team of ladies to create layouts and pieces that are sold alongside the spotlight kit in the store every month. These ladies are passionate about the causes we support, and are an added inspiration to anyone who visits the site with their beautiful layout art each month. Michelle, Jenn, Samantha, Tamara, Lynnette, Whit, Stephanie, Ana, Nettie, Suzanne, Karen, Rebecca, Becky, Claire, Melissa, Ing, Carolee, LeeAndra, Des and Jenna are a strong team with a depth of creativity and style that really lends to the success of the site.

Is it okay to feed the monster?

I admit it. I am a closet organizer. I am especially enamored of lists. When life starts to get too crazy or if I am feeling out of control, I make a few lists and….ahhhhhh! I feel so much better! I think I shivered when I found this site: ListPlanIt. Goody goody! I just emptied my PayPal account, otherwise I’d already be a member. But I think I might have to join. Really. It’s so cool. They have LIVE forms called eplanners? That you can download, enter your own data, and print? Ohmugosh too much fun! I can just imagine a pretty funky notebook full of all these super great forms. You could like just download one form per week, fill it out, be organized, keep it all pristine in it’s pretty notebook. Sigh. Swoon. Me=Happy.
