To do or not to do…..chores. That is the question. It’s hard in this busy day and age to do it all. Can I get an “amen”?! We have always been a chore oriented family through necessity. I just couldn’t do it all. Decision made. The end. But on some levels I did have some momma guilt. Turns out, however, that quilt was unnecessary. In an article published in World Teen, a God’s World Publication, we find out that children who regularly do chores growing up tend to be more successful! Woot Woot! I done something right. 😉
Originally reported in the Wall Street Journal, the data was analyzed by Professor Marty Rossman. He found that kids who start chores at an early age do better in school and careers, were more independent, and had better peer and family relationships. More interestingly, in 2014 a Braun research survey indicated that only 28% of parents polled make their kids do chores! The World Teen article indicates that extracurricular activities are limiting chore time. Is this good or bad? What do you think? Do your kids do chores? How much is enough?
