…to share the Christmas cards I did this year. Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to mailing any, so these were all hand delivered along with a gift. It was really fun and it feels special giving everyone a completely custom card. With some planning, you could even do them with specific people in mind. I just went with some general ideas and then kind of tried to match them up with good owners. 😉
First, I used Chalk Ink Wet Wipe Markers (but I got mine from Amazon.) I snapped up some black cards and envelopes from Michael’s, Recollections brand – real nice quality, 5×7, ten sets of a post card and envelope, also black. Finally, I grabbed a large white sidewalk chalk from the kids’ bucket on the patio. (They haven’t used sidewalk chalk in forever, but somehow, I still seem to want to buy it for them!)
The process was basic – I loosely sketched out ideas and quotes on scrap paper and then I just went to town, and throwing caution to the wind, I freehanded the designs. They aren’t perfect, but I am kind of proud of them. I only ended up throwing one out, but if I had the time, I might have removed one or two more from the mix. (I don’t think they are pictured in this post.) The pens work a lot like paint pens – you have to shake them, compress the tip a few times to get the ink flowing, and then it’s free sailing from there. VERY easy to use. And then, finally, to add a little realism to the effect, I rubbed it with real chalk. Really fun and easy. I included some pictures below, but forgive my lam-o cell phone photography skills!
How about you? Did you do anything fun or different with your cards, or wrap this year?
