Inspiration from Savannah and Charleston

hey hey everyone! look who Dianne let into her blog ;) ;) Melinda here tonight, and I’m going to share a few things from my recent weekend getaway with my hubby to Savannah and Charleston. It was warm, it was gorgeous, and I took lots and lots of photos I’m now trying to get scrapped.

Let’s start with the huge trees covered in spanish moss! gorgeous I tell ‘ya! I looked at the trees everywhere in the historic district of Savannah for hours and didn’t grow tired of seeing them. Maybe it is because it is so different from what I’m used to seeing here in Colorado.

I loved walking around the historic district- I did that for 6 hours one day, camera in hand stopping to take pictures and study whatever caught my eye- all of the squares, sort of like small parks, provide plenty of space to sit and relax in the shade when you need a break. Most have some sort of monument in the middle, and a few have fountains. I love sitting and listening to the gentle patter of running water in fountains- very relaxing!

Fountain’s free flow
Spraying the surround
Creating minuscule of glow
Where light reflects, on waters around!

Twilight touches the earth
Chirping birds music provide
Arm in arm…to the berth
Music of harmony unearthed! !

journaling: Most squares in Savannah did not boast water features, but there were a charming few that did along with some private gardens.

During part of our trip, we rented a car and drove up to Charleston, SC for a day to see a few things in the historic district there and to visit a plantation. Our first evening there we ate at Bubba Gump’s restaurant. What a fun atmosphere- all of the movie sayings, photos and memorabilia had us trying to remember the details of the movie, and the food was very good too! If you are in a place with a great atmosphere, get out that camera and capture a few of those details for your scrapbook. Most of the things on my layout (sorry I can’t figure out how to make it a bit bigger here ) are from things I photographed on the walls and then extracted to add to my pages.

and lets end with some shabby Dianne goodness! Her Weekend Getaway collection was perfect for capturing the ‘Rainbow Row’ houses on East Bay St. in Charleston. The papers had just the right touch of shabby with still plenty of color.

I’ve got a few more pages done, but this post is getting long and it’s just about time to get my kids into bed so I’ll save some for another time. I hope you found something inspiring in my vacation pages!
